PROJECT TYPE: New Build
ARCHITECTURE: S&S Architecture
FLOORING: Ted Todd
CABINETRY: DeVol
OVERVIEW: We demolished this 3-bedroom property on a large plot in the Kings Bromley Conservation area. The bricks were reclaimed from a barn in nearby Maxstoke and we used a lime mortar with an aggregate from sustainable building products supplier Ty Mawr. Roof tiles were also reclaimed from the demolition of an old hospital building in Stoke on Trent.
At the rear, we used standing seam zinc cladding on the gable end under the canopy and on the quirky dormer window with its splayed reveals. Shou-sugi-ban-style burnt ash cladding was used on the single storey elevation. Internally there’s a partially subterranean kitchen which gives an added feeling of space due to the high ceilings. Cabinets by DeVol, Belgian blue limestone worktop on the island.
